Swiss family business with an international focus
The FRAISA Group, headquartered in Bellach (Switzerland), is one of the leading manufacturers of high-performance tools for metalworking. Since its founding in 1934, the company has stood for the highest technological standards, creative engineering, quality and teamwork. With around 545 employees at seven international locations, FRAISA supplies industries such as watchmaking, medical technology, automotive and aviation. Through continuous investment in product development and technology, FRAISA is consistently pursuing its vision of a sustainable, digital future.
Another important step in this direction is the introduction of a powerful, modern web shop based on the Intershop Commerce Platform in the Microsoft Azure Cloud. The customer is at the center and can buy tools efficiently and benefit from service offerings.

Challenge
The custom-built web shop, more than 15 years old, was technologically outdated and increasingly posed a security risk. In addition, the decentralized structure with different country sites led to an inconsistent shop presence, as the in-house solution could not handle this complexity. This fragmentation also led to redundant data maintenance and made efficient work more difficult.
- Outdated custom shop solution without support options
- IT security risks and poor scalability
- Six individual shop instances with an inconsistent appearance
- Redundant, manually maintained data silos
- Insufficient integration options for newly added systems
- Inconsistently connected ERP, PIM and DAM interfaces
- Desire for standard software with B2B functionality instead of custom development
- Digitalization in and across all areas, all the way to the customer
Middleware as the key: integration with Azure Integration Services (AIS)
A central element of the project’s success was the introduction of a powerful middleware based on Microsoft Azure Integration Services (AIS). The goal was to decouple FRAISA’s heterogeneous system landscape – consisting of several ERP systems, PIM, DAM and other applications – and thus reduce complexity sustainably.
The AIS integration created a central communication layer that standardizes, scales and secures data exchange between the systems. Orders from the web shop, for example, are intelligently routed via AIS to the responsible ERP system – regardless of whether SAP or another system is in use. At the same time, AIS provides central product and master data in a standardized form for all downstream applications.
With AIS, a decisive step towards a digital experience platform was taken. This laid the foundation for future extensions and digital services.
Solution
Modern web shop with responsive design and intuitive UI/UX (search, image-based filters, catalog structure)
Development of a functionally simple solution that is easy for customers to understand and enables fast and easy ordering
Integration of the middleware (Azure Integration Services) to connect various ERP systems and the SAP Hybris PIM
Reduction of redundant data sources and complexity through central data management
Strengthening digital sales through automation and process optimization
